My husband is considering going into self employment as a sand blaster. We live within 10 miles of a large metropolitan area and he undersatnds the needsto have things sandblasted is high.
He is retired military, but his retirement benefits will not kick in for several years.
In your honest opinion, is there a real need for sandblasting work?
Thank you for your answers.
Your thoughts on a small business opportunity with sand blasting.?
Well.... He will need some sand....
But kidding aside.. After he gets up and running I would market to anyone building or repairing trailers, trucks and heavy equip.
One other issue.. He most likely will be blasting paint with some levels of lead in it. This can be very dangerous to to him and if he has employees OSHA will be watching very close.
Also the EPA is about to introduce new rules regarding lead-based paint. These rules are aimed at construction / remodeling / painting but it shows the EPA is very serious about discharge of lead into the environment.
Containment of the dust he generates will be key. If indoors he will need some type of negative pressure vacuums and they will have to have HEPA filters attached.
If 0outdoors the EPA / DEQ will be watching
Good Luck to you both..
